HARRY BIRRELL SUPPORTER SCALES KILIMANJARO, RAISING OVER £3,000 FOR THE TRUST!
On 1 June 2022, Glen Atchison embarked on a trip to Africa with True Summit Adventures to climb Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa and the highest free-standing mountain above sea level in the world at 5,895 metres.
The trustees were delighted and immensely grateful that Glen chose the Harry Birrell Scholarship Trust as the beneficiary of a fundraising campaign associated with his great endeavour, and we are even more delighted to report Glen’s successful completion of his mission to reach the summit.
Glen provided the following report to the trustees on his return to the UK:
“Climbing Kilimanjaro was much tougher than I ever imagined and very nearly killed me. However, despite Biblical rainstorms, post-apocalyptic camping conditions, -14C summit temperatures and suffering a black out 10m from the end, I made it and summited. Amazing experience, but not one I'll rush to repeat!”
Our sincere thanks and congratulations to Glen, and we can report that his campaign has so far raised over £3,000 for the Harry Birrell Scholarship Trust, but it’s not too late to make your own contribution, if you have not yet done so.
