WELCOME TO HARRY BIRRELL SCHOLAR SNAPS MAFANYA

The trustees of the Harry Birrell Scholarship Trust are delighted to announce that Sinethemba "Snaps" Mafanya (Harry Birrell Scholar No. 2) recently initiated his studies for an Executive MBA at Oxford University, and has matriculated from Balliol College.

Snaps matriculated from St Andrew's College in 2002, and was awarded an Anglo American bursary to study at the University of Cape Town, where he graduated with an Honours degree in Economics and Politics in 2008. After graduation he worked briefly for Procter & Gamble in Johannesburg, and then held positions at the global strategy consultants EY and Accenture over a five year period. This experience has provided Snaps with an excellent platform to contribute towards economic development in South Africa, and since 2016 he has worked for the Diageo SA Empowerment Trust, where he's now General Manager with responsibility for making investments in entrepreneurial ventures in the country.

Snaps has pursued his work commitments alongside a continued dedication to academic studies. He completed a MSC in Finance through the University of London between 2013-2016, and has been a Mandela Washington Fellow at Northwestern University in Chicago during 2018, a programme for young African leaders in Business and Entrepreneurship which was initiated by President Obama. He now takes up a place on the Executive MBA programme at the Saïd Business School in Oxford University, which runs from the Autumn of 2018 until Summer 2020.

Please join us in welcoming Snaps to the UK, and we hope that the Friends of the Trust will take the opportunity to meet with Snaps in person, by attending a Harry Birrell Scholarship Trust dinner at Balliol College on Saturday 14th September 2019.
